About Farflung.
Farflung is a travel agency in Nelson, at the top of New Zealand’s South Island. It was founded by Stephan, twenty years a designer and technologist before he was an advisor, German-born, with a young family and a great deal of flying between the two hemispheres: to grandparents, to friends, to work.
Those trips taught us what a booking site cannot: which seat lets a two-year-old sleep, which connection is a trap, which lodge means it when it says families are welcome, where to eat in a town with one street. Friends started asking us to plan theirs. Farflung is that, done properly: a small number of clients at a time, every itinerary hand-built, and a number to call when something breaks.
How Farflung works.
Six steps. The call is free. The proposal is yours to keep.
-
An introduction call.
Thirty minutes on video, free. You tell us where you’re going and what matters.
-
Brief and budget agreed.
In writing, including how we are paid, before we start planning.
-
A proposal.
Itinerary, flights, hotels and experiences, with the reasoning for each choice.
-
Booking.
We book it. You get one document with everything in it.
-
Travel, with support.
Our number, for the whole trip. If something breaks, we fix it.
-
A debrief.
What worked, what didn’t, and what the next one should look like.
What we believe about travel.
Five things we will not plan against.
- Rest days are not wasted days.
- The seat matters more than the fare.
- Children are travellers, not luggage.
- The best meal of the trip is rarely the most expensive one.
- A plan should survive a cancelled flight.
Practicalities.
